No Fee Balance Transfer Credit Cards are Back!

When my wife and I were digging ourselves out of credit card debt, we had a secret weapona no fee balance transfer credit card. At the time it was offered by Citi, and it allowed us to transfer debt to a 0% card for free. We not only saved money, but we got out of debt faster, too.  But the problem with balance transfer cards over the last few years has been the fee. Every BT offer out there charged at least three percent, and some charged as much as five percent of the balance transferred. Today, however, the no fee balance transfer is back!

Chase has just launched a new version of its Slate Card, which provides consumers a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 12 months without a balance transfer fee.  This allows the credit card user to move their balance from one card to this new Slate Card without being charged a 3% fee.  Depending on just how much money needs to be transferred, the savings could be substantial.

So whats the catch? There really isnt one, but you should always check out the details. Fo

Ron Plain: Hog Outlook.

Hog Outlook

Ron Plain University of Missouri November 4, 2011

Last month Congress passed and the President signed the free trade agreement with South Korea. It now appears the agreement may have difficulty passing South Korea’s National Assembly. It is especially unpopular with Korean farmers who fear large increases in the importation of U.S. farm products. South Korea’s President is working to get approval this month, but opposition groups are calling for a delay until after their April elections.

Japan is moving to increase from 20 months or younger to 30 months or younger the allowable slaughter age of U.S. and Canadian cattle that can supply beef to Japan. The 20 month restriction was put in place following the BSE scare. The new 30 month rule is expected to go into effect sometime during the first half of 2012. Thus far in 2011, Japan is the third largest foreign buyer of U.S. beef.

Chris Grayling tells unemployed people it’s a ‘great time’ to apply for a job

In response to the news that 80,000 people have applied for 18,000 temporary Christmas jobs at Royal Mail Chris Grayling MP (Minister for Employment) has helpfully told unemployed people that:

Now is a great time to apply for one of the tens of thousands of Christmas jobs which are being advertised. Temporary work gives you an idea of the kind of career you might want, looks good on your CV and also gives you something to talk about in job interviews. It can even lead to more permanent employment.

These comments appear to indicate that Chris Grayling thinks many unemployed people might hesistate to apply for jobs, or are not aware that being in work looks good on their CV. But he needednt have worried miraculously 80,000 people had already taken action before he dispensed his advice. Its therefore unfortunate that 62,000 of them (77 per cent) will find they are unsuccessful.

It may not strike everyone as the best time to start looking for work.
